The history of the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at Dniprovsky State Technical University originates from the Department of Rolling, Metallurgy and Heat Treatment of Dniprodzerzhinsk Metallurgical Institute, which was established in 1950. With the reorganization of the institute structure, aimed at improving the training of specialists, in 1965 the General Engineering Department of Metallurgy and Heat Treatment (MHT) was separated.
The staff of the department taught metal science and
heat treatment of metals and alloys, materials science and related disciplines
for applicants for higher education of all engineering specialties. The
first head of the department was the Candidate of technical sciences Yu.A.
Sysuyev.
For 15 years, the department was headed by Doctor of
technical sciences L. L. Pyatakova.
In
1997 in order to provide educational institutions of various levels of
accreditation and scientific institutions with highly qualified specialists
capable of carrying out pedagogical and scientific-engineering activities, the
Department of Physics of Metals and Materials Science (PMMS) was created at the
Dneprodzerzhinsk State Technical University. There in 1997-1998 academic year
the training of specialists for educational qualification levels
"Bachelor" and "Specialist" in the specialty "Solid
State Physics" began.
In 2000 the Department of
FMMS was renamed into the Department of Solid State Physics (SSP), and in 2010
the Department of SSP received a new name - the Department of Condensed Matter
Physics (CMP).
For the implementation of educational and
research activities, the staff of the department created the necessary material
and technical base and methodological support of the educational process. The
result of this work is the creation of a whole complex of operating educational
and research laboratories for metallography, physical, mechanical and
tribological research methods, thermal and laser treatment, radiography and
electron microscopy.
The educational and
research laboratories of the Department are equipped with modern equipment,
which allows not only to carry out practical and laboratory work, but also to
conduct research on the topics of qualification and dissertation works.
In order to further ensuring the educational and
scientific institutions with highly qualified specialists who are able to
organize and carry out teaching activities in higher and secondary educational
institutions from 2003-2004 academic year at the CMP Department the training of
specialists began at the educational qualification level (EQL)
"Master" in the direction of Physics in the specialty - 8.04020302
"Condensed Matter Physics" with a one-year term of study on a
full-time basis based on the Bachelor or Specialist EQL. After graduating from
the university, graduates receive the Master”s degree of physics, a teacher of
a higher educational institution, a research assistant.
Since 2016, the
Department has been training applicants for higher education in the specialty
104 Physics and Astronomy for educational and professional programs:
"Physics and Astronomy", the first level of higher education
(Bachelor) and "Condensed Matter Physics", the second level of higher
education (Master).
With the arrival of Professor A.I. Burya at the Department
in 2013 under his leadership and participation, a very large and complex work
was carried out to create the necessary material base, methodological support
of the educational process, the formation of relevant scientific topics in the
development, production and study of the properties of polymer composite
materials, the establishment of creative ties with related departments of
leading universities in Ukraine and the world. For this, research
laboratories were created: composite materials, thermophysical research,
physical and mechanical tests.
In 2018 all this allowed the CMP Department to obtain
the license to carry out educational activities for the preparation of
applicants for higher education in specialty 132 Materials Science in the
educational and professional program "Materials Science".
Since
1997 in different periods, the Department was headed by famous scientists:
Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. A.L. Levchenko, Doctor of Physical and
Mathematical Sciences, prof. M. Vorobyov, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical
Sciences, prof. P. Brekharya. From 2011 to the present, the position of the
head of the Department has been held by Doctor of Physics and Mathematics,
Professor Lysenko Olexander Borisovich. At various times, the
training of physicists from the main fundamental and professionally oriented
disciplines was carried out by highly qualified teachers of the Department of
Condensed Matter Physics, including: Professors O.B. Lysenko, A.I. Burya, as
well as Candidates of physical and mathematical sciences, Associate professors V.G. Taran , Kalinina T.V., Kosinskaya O.L., Kharitonova A.A. and Candidates of
technical sciences, Associate professors E.B. Leyko , N.O. Truseyeva , G.V. Borisova , A.I. Pabat , N.M. Kozina , V.I. Sukhomlin, S.V. Gubarev , assistant O.O. Naberezhnaya, senior teachers: K.A. Yeriomina and A.-M.V. Tomina .
